400 Lake Shore: Chicago's Newest Skyscraper Progress Update (2026)

The 66th floor of the 72-story 400 Lake Shore North Tower is set to be completed by 2026, marking a significant milestone in the development of the Chicago Spire site in Streeterville. Despite recent weather challenges, construction progress is steadily advancing. The exterior glass facade is almost complete up to the 47th floor, with the tower's impressive 858-foot height set to deliver 635 dwelling units, including 127 affordable apartments. This is the first of two towers planned for the site, with the South Tower expected to reach approximately 765 feet and 465 residences. The shared below-grade parking will be a convenient feature for both towers. The buildout of DuSable Park, approved by the Chicago Plan Commission in October, is also part of this phase, with the park and tower set to open in 2027. The construction process has faced some setbacks, including heavy winds that delayed the sixth and final tower crane jump in November. However, the crane is set to be fully operational by the end of next weekend, with just five sections remaining to reach the full height. The project's progress is visually captured through a series of stunning photos, showcasing the tower's impressive setbacks and the surrounding landscape, including Grant Park and DuSable Harbor. The construction site is bustling with activity, and workers are making steady progress on the 49th floor. The project's development is a testament to the city's commitment to innovative and sustainable urban living, offering a glimpse into the future of Chicago's skyline.
